I, Medusa

I finished this book around 1 AM and when I tell you that every page was an absolute treat

This book is told in a single POV first person perspective so there’s a lot of ā€œIā€ usage and that allowed me to metaphorically put a helmet on and see things through Medusaā€˜s eyes

Her nickname in this book given to her by family is Meddy so I want to use the word Meddy to refer to the main character, but it is a book about Medusa

If you want a good female rage book, I need you to pick this up right now

I ended up buying the sprayed edges version because it’s gorgeous and it is currently sitting on my bookshelf as my prized possession and it is so cool looking and it is so wonderful to hold and feel and touch and it is just such a piece of art both the contents inside and with the actual book physically looks like

I had gone into this book with very little knowledge about mythology, except for the fact that Medusa has snakes on her head and she can turn people into stone and that she was wronged. That was all I really knew and I think I’ve seen a Medusa movie when I was really young.

I loved how much this character was truly brought to life by the author and how complex of situations Medusa had to navigate and trust and honesty and loyalty were really big themes that I picked up on when it came to who was lying to her and trying to use her and what was really happening and what people were telling her versus what was actually happening as far as was she in danger was she in safe hands? What are people’s intentions? this really helped to create tension and conflict and really pulled on my heart strings.

I absolutely also love that there was a reference to Alexandria and Egypt, so there was some regional ā€œcrossoverā€ within the book

I enjoyed every page of this book, like a really really nice bubble bath and a face mask and a really really nice bar of chocolate or chocolate cake and I indulged in this book and I read it in the span of several months and usually it takes me a couple days to read a book because I can’t put it down but this book I just wanted to save her so much because it’s really hard for me to find books that I can get completely lost in like this.

Yes, I cried during this book and you might too, so I’m giving you a warning now

I’m genuinely at a loss for words with how wonderful this book was. I mean there wasn’t a line of fluff and every single phrase and every single word was so intentional that the world was truly brought to life in this author. Just did such a fantastic job of doing that.

I don’t want to give any spoilers away as to what happens in the book so I’ll just say that if you were a fan of mythology, you need to pick this book up or else you’re totally missing out

I’m so happy I was able to read this book and I’m so happy I have the sprayed edges edition and I’m literally obsessed with this book
