Full Review:

“Evocation” by Saint Gibson is a science fiction fantasy book.
It’s around 300+ pages and it has a really good balance of character development and plot.

One of my big reasons for DNFing books is a lack of character development – if I cannot tell which character is speaking or who’s POV it is partially just from their quotes, thoughts, etc, I get bored pretty quickly.

This book has such amazing character development that I was indulged in this from that alone – which is rare. These characters are witty a****holes that are very built out, layered, complex, and wonderful.

I really enjoyed the queer representation within this book. I also really enjoyed Moria, Rhys and David’s characters. I laughed over 20 times while reading this book, but also had my heart squeezed and ripped just a bit.

While there is humor, this book does get a tad bit dark as well (not anywhere near incredibly scary by any means) but it is not something that I would describe as a perfectly cozy book just due to some of the nature of some of the events that happened. However, they handled in such a way that it allows you to feel the stress with the characters and also feel the relief with them, which is why I feel like this book can kind of rip you in half and put you back together and I think I need book twoimmediately

This does have a bit of romance but it’s more tension and humor. There is not a lot of spice so do not go into this book thinking it’s a big spicy read.

I really enjoyed the relationship with Rhys and Moira. The character art in the hardcover edition I have is gorgeous. It was really nice not having to fight all the pages and it laying flat and me being able to read it comfortably. The cover is also gorgeous and yes it looks amazing on my shelf.

Thank you again Aardvark books for spoiling me with this one! #gifted
