This book starts out strong and steady. It wasn’t too over the top and kept me coming back to find out what would happen next.
I began to feel conflicted around 40% which is why I brought my rating from 4 stars down.
I didn’t realize this book was about a female serial killer.
I read a book about a woman who goes to work on an island once a year and has a history of getting involved in crimes on the island. There were hints that she was involved but there wasn’t much beyond that in the beginning really. It was not clearly established.
There is a lot of mentions of a family member passing. I believe this was to help strengthen the character development but for me I think it was mentioned a few too many times and I would have really liked to see inside the kind of a serial killer more. There was a lot of self pity this character had and some weird sexy desires but not a heck of a lot beyond that.
Around 60% I was wondering if the book would pick up. It seemed to be complex as it didn’t feel like a popcorn page turner at this point when it was taking me some time to get through it.
The ending I think simply just fell a bit flat. I lost interest as the book went on.
This being said, I realllly enjoyed the writing style, the concept, and the humor within this book. It has really strong elements going for it and I’m definitely wanting to read more from this author in the future because truthfully I think a book like this is really hard to write.
The cover is amazing and I’m pretty happy the book was similar in experience.
I would totally recommend this to someone wanting a fun thriller beach read.
