I am doing it – I am going to start a YouTube channel focused on books!
I have been thinking about doing this for a very long time, but it always seemed fairly out of reach. It seemed like you needed high quality equipment and a team to make it work.
Not only does it not seem like that is the case, I think I underestimated my set up a bit. I have a proper tripod, a nice phone with a good camera, lighting, and a set up. What else does one really truly need?
I also have something a lot of others don’t – passion and energy.
Since I currently am unable to work a full time job and I am igniting all my hobbies again in the healing process, I truly have the ability to go all out and have fun with this channel in a way that I would be limited in doing if I had a full-time job to commit to. My existence is spent reading, healing, and trying to catch up with my body and take care of my dogs. Reading is the activity I spend the most time doing, so I’ve read or at least picked up and sampled most books at this point and it’s become a topic I need to talk more about to someone or I might lose my mind.
Why YouTube? Instagram burned me out as I do not have fancy edition books, pretty lighting, and gorgeous corners in my house. I cannot do Tik Toks, it’s exhausting and I hate it. I tried for a while and it just isn’t something I enjoy doing at all. YouTube is a wonderful medium where a 20 minute video might actually be watched at least in the background while someone reads and I can actually help more authors and more books reach the people who are looking for them.
Too often when i do a quick search on YouTube for books, I find the same books or only two creators. It feels really limiting and I do not know if it’s due to the algorithm or lack of content creators, but if it’s the latter, I am here to help with the solution.
What’s to expect from my channel:
- I’ll likely begin with one video monthly to start off slow and get the hang of things. I want to eventually make it to every other week.
- The videos will be longer in length
- I’ll be discussing books I read recently, different genres, books I love, books I didn’t love, everything books
- Main genres I’ll cover at first: thrillers, sci fi, Fantasy, horror, and romantic comedies
- Sub genres I am focusing on:
- Popcorn thrillers
- Technothrillers
- Romantic fantasy
- Romantic comedies
- Cyberpunk
- Splatterpunk
- Cosmic horror
- There’s a lot, I’ll try to make sure this list is updated and accurate.
If anyone wants to connect regarding this (YouTubers specifically), please feel free to reach out! I am not currently doing interviews with authors yet and am only working with publishers so I apologize in advance for disappointment regarding that currently.
